Professor Sunder Kekre
Sunder Kekre is a distinguished figure at the Tepper School of Business, holding the esteemed Vasantrao Shrinivas Dempo Reflective Chair Professorship. Over the years, Kekre has climbed the academic ladder at Carnegie Mellon University, transitioning from an assistant professor to an associate professor with indefinite tenure, and ultimately to his current professorship. His journey through academia is marked by his contributions to the Tepper School of Business, reflecting his commitment to excellence in teaching and research.
Dr. Kekre’s research interests span a wide array of topics within manufacturing and operations systems. He is renowned for his work on new product development structures, strategic costing of product designs, and lean innovation. His recent explorations delve into knowledge sharing in enterprise networks, performance management in healthcare networks, and business analytics for customer service. In addition to his academic pursuits, Kekre has provided his expertise to Fortune 500 companies, including Bosch and General Motors, through consulting and field studies.
He earned his Bachelor’s of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and went on to acquire a Master’s of Science and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester. His academic journey is highlighted by his early engagement with the industry, having worked in various capacities at Tata Steel in Mumbai, India. This blend of practical experience and academic rigor has equipped Dr. Kekre with a unique perspective that he brings to his research and teaching endeavors.
Professor Oliver Hahl
Oliver Hahl is an Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs and Director, International Partnerships and Associate Professor of Organization Theory, Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business. He teaches courses at CMU at the intersection of firm and organizational strategy. Oliver received his Ph.D. in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
Oliver’s research interests revolve around how audience perceptions of organizations and individuals influence behavior in markets. This includes dynamics related to how organizations learn, why firms have difficulty making trade-offs, how inter-firm networks affect competitive advantage, and how to recognize a firm’s distinctive competitive advantage. He has studied organizations and behavior in industries as diverse as entertainment, sports, food, and behavioral health industries.
Oliver started at CMU in 2013. Oliver received his Ph.D. in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Oliver received a BS in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he was an All-Ivy League baseball player for the Quakers. Prior to returning to academia, Oliver worked for ABB Ltd in Switzerland, Brazil, and the United States managing finance and spare parts sales across a variety of business lines.
